The Women’s Ministries at Holy Apostles Orthodox Church in Sandpoint, Idaho, is a vibrant and nurturing community led by Matushka Irene. Our ministries provide a space for women to grow in faith, support one another, and actively contribute to the life of the parish. Rooted in the Orthodox Christian tradition, we welcome women of all backgrounds—cradle Orthodox, converts, and seekers—to join us in fellowship, service, and worship.
Our Ministries
Women’s Group for Mutual Encouragement
Our women’s group meets regularly to foster spiritual growth, mutual encouragement, and deep fellowship. Through prayer, Bible study, and discussions on Orthodox spirituality, we support one another in living out our faith in daily life. These gatherings provide a warm environment to share experiences, build friendships, and strengthen our commitment to Christ.
Choir
The women’s choir, under Matushka Irene’s guidance, plays a vital role in the liturgical life of Holy Apostles. We sing in English, offering hymns and chants that uplift the soul and enhance our worship services, including Divine Liturgy, Vespers, and Orthros. No prior experience is needed—just a desire to praise God through song.
Altar Ministry
Our women serve in the altar ministry by assisting with the preparation and care of the sanctuary. This includes tasks such as cleaning sacred vessels, arranging icons, and ensuring the altar is ready for services. This ministry is a sacred opportunity to contribute to the beauty and reverence of our worship.
Special Events with Cooking and Baking
We organize special events that bring our community together through the joy of cooking and baking. From preparing festal meals for parish celebrations to baking prosphora (liturgical bread) for the Divine Liturgy, these gatherings are filled with warmth and creativity. Our culinary efforts strengthen our bonds and honor Orthodox traditions.
Charities
The Women’s Ministries is committed to serving those in need through charitable works. We support local and global Orthodox charities, organize outreach programs, and collect donations for those facing hardship. Our efforts reflect Christ’s call to love and serve our neighbors, extending His compassion beyond our parish.
